ORIS Materials Intelligence is proud to announce today its support to the United Nations Decade of Sustainable Transport (2026–2035) through a commitment made by the International Road Federation (IRF) and global partners including ORIS, Arup, Australia National Transport Research Organisation, Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety, International Federation of Consulting Engineers, International Road Assessment Programme, and the World Wildlife Fund.
By aiming to accelerate the shift to sustainable transport systems, the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport represents an opportunity to accelerate the transition toward transportation infrastructure serving both people and the planet.
Recognising that roads are catalysts for economic transformation, social equity, and environmental sustainability, the IRF has assembled a coalition of seven partners to mobilise the global road ecosystem. The initiative translates the UN Decade of Action's vision into measurable, evidence-based actions for inclusive, safe, green and efficient roads, through two main deliverables:
Thematic Roadmaps will establish policy frameworks, technical standards, best practices, and progress indicators across four critical areas:
A Capacity-Building Programme to deliver training and peer-learning activities to strengthen institutional capacity among road and transport authorities implementing the roadmaps. Targeting stakeholders in low- and middle-income countries, the programme empowers participants to develop their own skills strategies, supported by the IRF's Global Transport Knowledge Portal (gTKP) as a central resource hub.
"Sustainable infrastructure begins with informed decisions at the design stage. By supporting the IRF's commitment to the UN Decade, we're advancing a shared vision of a future where every linear infrastructure project — from rural roads to major highways — contributes to a resilient, inclusive, low-carbon future. This is a call to action, and we're ready to deliver," explains Nicolas Miravalls, Co-founder and CEO of ORIS Materials Intelligence.
ORIS has been at the forefront of sustainable infrastructure innovation, working with multilateral development banks, public authorities and leading engineering firms to integrate sustainability and climate resilience into project design.
ORIS's cloud-based platform leverages artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science to enable decision-makers to measure and optimise carbon emissions, circularity, and resilience in road projects. The platform empowers infrastructure professionals to achieve measurable outcomes: up to 50% carbon reduction and 80% natural resource savings in linear transport infrastructure. It also provides in-depth climate risk analysis and quantifiable adaptation measures, along with prioritisation of the most vulnerable roads of an entire network and the evaluation of their socio-economic impacts. By providing actionable insights at the design stage, ORIS ensures that sustainability and resilience are embedded into every project from the ground up.
Launched in July 2023 in partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), Roads4People embodies the inclusive development goals at the heart of the UN Decade. This innovative programme adopts a systemic approach to infrastructure planning, rebalancing investments between rural road networks and major connectivity corridors to ensure that underserved communities benefit from infrastructure development.
The programme leverages ORIS's advanced digital platform to enable governments to optimise large infrastructure projects through better design and reduced maintenance needs, generating measurable financial savings. These savings are then transferred into dedicated Rural Road Funds to finance local road networks, creating a sustainable financing mechanism that connects rural communities to markets, healthcare, education, and economic opportunities while integrating sustainability, climate resilience, and safety from the design stage.
The UN Decade of Sustainable Transport is not just a vision, it's a call to action. In alignment with its core mission, ORIS is committed to supporting this transformative initiative by providing the tools, data, and expertise needed to turn ambitious sustainability goals into on-the-ground results. Through collaboration with the IRF, UNIDO and partners worldwide, ORIS is helping build resilient, inclusive, low-carbon infrastructure networks that communities need today and will benefit future generations.
