Building Inclusive Rural Roads

The Rural Roads Fund: a groundbreaking initiative to deliver sustainable and inclusive rural roads

In June 2023, UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) signed a Cooperation Project Agreement with ORIS to develop an innovative program for sustainable and inclusive rural roads in developing countries.

ORIS's digital impact assessment capabilities will be used to optimize infrastructure projects in partnering countries, resulting in savings and reduced environmental impact. These savings will then be used to support rural road connectivity through a Rural Road Fund, boosting economic growth and livelihood development. The Rural Roads Fund will be supported by UNIDO and an international donor community.

UNIDO will collaborate with governments to identify projects for optimization, benefiting from public, private, and financial partners' support.

This partnership aims to facilitate investment and technology transfer for road infrastructure upgrading and connect remote areas, constructing high-quality roads for sustainable infrastructure.
